Family PromiseFamily Promise Our congregation is proud to be a part of the network of churches in Manatee County that work together as Family Promise of Manatee County. The Mission of Family Promise is to work together to be a resource to children and their families in our community that are experiencing homelessness. FUMC Palmetto is a host congregation. This means that once a quarter we host several families in our facilities for overnight shelter. Church Members help provide transportation from the Day Center over in Bradenton. A hot meal is also prepared and served family style. Some volunteers help by playing with the children and visiting. Each night a church member spends the night at the church serving as a chaperone. During the day the families in the program are taken to the Day Center. The dtaff of Family Promise work with the families in the program to help them with issues such as health, child care, education, employment, and access to affordable housing that will empower them to live in a sustainable lifestyle in our community. Our congregation is proud to be one of the original host churches, but we are also very clear that we could not sustain this ministry on our own. We are very grateful for the on-going partnership with Terra Ceia United Methodist Church, St Mary's Episcopal Church, and Palmetto Drive-In United Methodist Church. Each contributes in a very generous and enthusiastic manner. |
